College Overview

BMet is a large general FE college with approximately 10,702 learners and three main campuses based in Birmingham: James Watt College at Perry Barr, Matthew Boulton College in central Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield College.

Nearly half of our learners are aged 16-18 and are on full-time programmes, and most of our adult learners are on part-time courses. We are proud to support students from some of the most deprived communities in the UK.

The broad curriculum offer includes: A Levels and vocational qualifications, apprenticeships, access to higher education, part-time adult professional development, entry level courses as well as full and part-time degree level study programmes. BMet is focused on ensuring student progression, through pathways into employment and its curriculum is shaped to respond to employer demand.

Advanced and Higher Technical Specialisms

Matthew Boulton College delivers ambitious personalised learning programmes matched to local and regional needs to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours that students will need in a challenging economic environment. Specialisms include: accounting, law, business, digital and creative, fashion, horticulture, early years, science, health, pharmacy, dental nursing and dental technology. The college is home to two career academies, specialising in creative and digital technology and business and professional services. The curriculum of each Career College is influenced by employers, for employment.

James Watt College offers high-quality training in priority sector subject areas that are crucial to the regional and national economy. Specialisms include: construction, engineering, rail, early years, teacher training, media and games.

Sutton Coldfield College focuses on maximising students’ chances to gain sustained employment through its work experience strategy. Specialisms include A Levels, business, creative art, digital media, early years and education, finance, healthcare, lifesciences, performing arts, public services STEM subjects and running a variety of sports academies.
