The college is home to two career academies, specialising in creative and digital technology and business and professional services. James Watt College offers high-quality training in priority sector subject areas that are crucial to the regional and national economy. Specialisms include: construction, engineering, rail, early years, teacher training, media and games.

Sutton Coldfield College focuses on maximising students’ chances to gain sustained employment through its work experience strategy. Specialisms include A Levels, business, creative art, digital media, early years and education, finance, healthcare, lifesciences, performing arts, public services STEM subjects and running a variety of sports academies.
