College Overview

Queen Alexandra College (QAC) is a national charity with three service areas: college, community and residential and is a specialist FE college (ISC) publicly funded through the EFSA and around 30 different Local Authorities. QAC funding also comes from social services, health services, donations and enterprise income. Student and client numbers have grown significantly over recent years and the college now has a main campus in Harborne and two smaller campuses: a horticulture campus, ‘Umberslade’ in Selly Oak and a vocational campus, ‘Pinewood’ in Bartley Green. The college runs a community hub at Onnely House in Harborne and has 11 supported living properties in Harborne. QAC Community Services provides support and a range of services for young people with disabilities in the community and also operates a number of enterprises which support the wider charity.

QAC has over 360 students. All have SEND, each having an EHCP and identified as having the most complex support and therapeutic needs. QAC provides residential (education, supported living and respite) and non-residential education, training and personal development for people aged 16-25. QAC retains its specialism in visual impairment and is specialist in supporting complex autism and complex mental health. QAC is a pan-disability college with a national remit but has a strong recruitment from Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. Our college values drive how we work with students, clients, stakeholders and as a team.

QAC continually aspires to reflect the diversity of students and the local community. QAC holds recognition as ‘Leaders in Diversity’ and was ranked #4 in National Centre for Diversity’s ‘Most Diverse Workplace’ in 2022. Also a ‘Disability Confident Employer’, a ‘Mindful Employer’ and is an ‘Investor in People, Silver’. QAC continues to operate within the principles of the AoC Mental Health Charter.
